Seme

Like many plants, this piece is built in a modular way, with repeating shapes that can replicate and grow into a larger, more complex structure over time. So far, I’ve created two iterations, representing two generations, but the idea is to keep adding more. At the base, there’s a nativity scene of all life forms. At the top, a seedling is placed within the womb of the next generation. The seedling will sprout and grow into another generation, continuing this never-ending repetition of life morphing and evolving. The structure is made from an oak tree that we felled after dying from a fungus, while the figurines and the seedling are made from wild clay, wood-fired, and set on a bed of lichen.
