These little earrings are carved out of boxwood. Along with the red lacquered wooden beads, they are attached to 18ct gold hoops as earrings. They are called "les petits" as an affectionate term towards the two little twin gorillas.

Boxwood is a fine-grained and dense wood which is satisfying to work with. It's a bushy plant which you often find in french-style gardens. It grows pretty slowly, so it's hard to find thick pieces of it. I was lucky to stumble upon one on a walk. Now that I know what they look like, I am always on the lookout.
