Concezione
This sculpture is a representation of evolution and the idea that all living things are part of one single greater life.
It’s made from a single chestnut log, split in two and hollowed out. Running along its center is a sequence of different plants grafted together, each one transmitting their genes to the next.
At the base, is a small cove with a little wild-clay seedling nested in a bed of lichen. There must have been a seedling at the origin of life.
Chestnut timber, lichen, dyes, wood-fired wild clay, grafted hazel and oak branches.
